Then Sings My Soul Saturday... God Speaking

Do you ever wonder if God is speaking to you? How do you know it's Him? How do you distinguish His voice from the other voices you hear? Can you tell the difference between the voice of the accuser and the voice of the Father?

A few years ago, I took the study Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby. If you have never taken it, I highly recommend it. In this study, Blackaby says God speaks by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstances, and the church to reveal Himself, his purposes and his ways.

Then about a year ago, I took the study God Speaks to Me by Priscilla Shirer. This study, like Experiencing God, was life changing. It finally helped me to understand God has a message specifically for me. I just need to listen. Sometimes it is hard to know when God is speaking to us. We all get so busy in day to day life, we sometimes can't hear Him. Or if we think we do hear Him, we second guess it and wonder if it is really Him.

Priscilla has a follow-up study called Discerning the Voice of God. In it she talks about how to know God's voice. She answers the question "How can I really hear God speaking to me personally?" here in her frequently asked questions on her website. This study is also excellent.

Just today, I was listening to the radio and there was an advertisement for John Eldridge's new book "Walking With God." I haven't purchased it yet, but he has a website up with video classes for the book. I started watching them today, and they seem great so far. Here is the link if you are interested. In this book, he talks about knowing the voice of God and understanding how he speaks to you through everyday circumstances.

John 10:27 says "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."

Mandisa talks about some of the ways God may be speaking to us in this song. Listen to the words carefully. It is a beautiful.

God has a message for you. He is speaking to you. Are you listening?

Thanks for hosting and have a wonderful weekend!

Love that song! LOVE that book too. I love it. It is hard to explain to others sometimes when and how you hear God speaking. Both were very practical in aiding with that.
Much love,
Angela

I love this song! My prayer is that I listen and truly hear His voice more so he doesn't have to do something drastic to get my attention - but whatever His will, I will be glad in it:-)

Hi Amy,

Wow, this was so good. Thanks so much for all those awesome links! I'll have to go check them out.

Now that your song. I'll never forget the first time I heard Mandisa sing this. I was at a Beth Moore Conference. I was sitting with Tonya and a group of moms who had lost their children to cancer that year.

Needless to say, not a DRY eye in the group or stadium that night.

We also got to hear Priscella speak, OH MY!!! I'll never forget that conference, and yes, GOD SPOKE, loud and clear!!

Blessings♥

Amy, This is SO beautiful. I'm so glad you shared this song this week. I have been doing alot of thinking over the last few months about this very topic. I'm sure that I've missed God speaking to me more than I care to admit... I get so busy some days trying to keep up with "stuff" that I don't look to what is right in front of me. I'm trying to be more aware of God in every little thing -- what a difference it makes when I am conscience of this! I'm getting there. Slowly, but surely.

Have a great weekend!

Mandisa is one of my FAVORITES! Would you BELIEVE that I got to see her with Priscilla, Beth, & .... GREAT, now I can't remember the other lady's name. They were all together in TN this past summer. It was one of the MOST MEMORABLE times of growth (and release) in my life.

THANKS so much for sharing this beautiful song and your heart as you seek HIS.

LOVE YOU!

Oh yes. God will use whatever to get our attention. These past 2 1/2 months, I've been at home while my husband has been working out of town. God encouraged me to use this time to grow closer to Him. I've had to rely more on Him as my comforter and counselor. I know that He loves me.

Nice song. I also did Blackaby's study several years ago at the church where my husband and I met. It was great! I like this idea of "then sings my soul sat."...I will be posting on this too!
Enjoy the weekend.

I love this song!

My friends and I have been talking a lot recently about how personal God is! He knows what each of us needs. He knows how to speak to our hearts, how to get our attention. That excites me when I think about those I love who are not walking with Him. He knows how to get their attention! What hope that gives me!

And I am so thankful He loves me enough to speak to me daily! Lord, give me ears to hear You!

Thanks for sharing this today! And as always, thanks for being obedient to start this meme! :)

WONDERFUL song! When we really "get it" that God is wanting to speak with us it is an incredibly overwhelming thing! It makes every moment of the day so much more meaningful as we wait in anticipation for His voice. The sad thing is most of the time we just don't "get it". I will have to check out the books you recommended here.

Thanks again for hosting this weekend inspiration!!

Sigh...I have to apologize...I thought I was smart and pre-wrote something for today's meme...but Blogger outsmarted me. It is posted under Tuesday's date...and I'm going to repost it in Mr. Linky...sorry!

On the other hand, we finally! got to meet our little girl at 12:47am after being postponed for induction for over eight hours because the hospital was overloaded with women in labor.

Look for a pic or two soon on my blog!
