Then Sings My Soul Saturday

Stumbled across this one this week and fell in love with it! Listen to the words. You'll love it too!

Have a blessed weekend!

Amy

These are the lives of the rearranged
Scattered souls who've been displaced
Nowhere else to turn
Like Bethlehem we have packed the place
Human need fills ever space
No room at the inn

Still God found a corner,
Made a bed down in the hay
Could he reappear, make his advent here
Will he still draw near today?

My world is crying,
Crying for a Christmas
Some way to know for sure --
That our God is with us
We could all use a sign
A little glimpse of divine
For a world that still cries for Christmas

Feeding trough on a dirty floor
Unimpressive welcome for
God's Almighty Son
Are we as blind to incarnation
Daily proof of our salvation
Love's already come

We are not abandoned,
All alone in our despair
He who once came down, he can still be found
Every when and everywhere

My world is crying,
Crying for a Christmas
Some way to know for sure --
That our God is with us
Once a baby so small
Grew to die for us all
For a world that still cries for Christmas.

Jesus you are here, Jesus you are now
Jesus you are here, Jesus you are now

My world is crying,
Crying for a Christmas
Some way to know for sure --
That our God is with us
We can all be the sign
That his love is alive
For a world that still cries for Christmas

Then Signs My Soul Saturday

Wow, I can't believe it is already December! This year has really disappeared. For the past few years, I have said I was going to be done with everything for the holidays early so I could enjoy the Christmas season and not feel so rushed and crazy. I keep telling myself to focus on the reason we celebrate Christmas, but somehow I still seem to get trapped in the craziness that most have made of Christmas. I'm praying I will stop feeling so overwhelmed and pressured by the shopping, decorating, baking etc. and just focus on Him this holiday season. My focus for December is peace. This song makes me feel peaceful! I love it. I hope you enjoy it too!

Thanks to Carol last week for hosting. I was in New Mexico at the CLASS Christian Writers Conference and had no internet or phone service! It was fun but I'm glad to be home!

Love Jeremy Camp and this week's song. Hope you do too!

I'm so thankful that Jesus Saves!

Then Sings My Soul Saturday

Howdy friends! It's Carol from sheep to the right. Amy is in New Mexico at a writer's conference and asked me to step in for Then Sings My Soul. I was happy to oblige.

I've chosen the theme song to The Lone Ranger (William Tell). Amy and I are usually joined at the hip, so I tease that we are The Lone Ranger and Tonto. Well, this week she truly is the "lone" ranger, since she left Tonto back in Georgia.

I can't wait until Sunday until she gallops back home again! Enjoy!

Then Sings My Soul Saturday - Strong Enough

November is National Epilepsy Awareness Month. I hope to post some more information and links to some epilepsy websites for you this month and hopefully post the video from the interview I did recently in New York for Women Succeeding with Epilepsy.

I thought this song by Matthew West was appropriate for how I feel sometimes when Spencer's seizures are out of control. Whatever your circumstance, know that He is strong enough for both of you.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

You must
You must think I'm strong
To give me what I'm going through

Well, forgive me
Forgive me if I'm wrong
But this looks like more than I can do
On my own

I know I'm not strong enough to be
everything that I'm supposed to be
I give up
I'm not stong enough
Hands of mercy won't you cover me
Lord right now I'm asking you to be
Strong enough
Strong enough
For the both of us

Well, maybe
Maybe that's the point
To reach the point of giving up

Cause when I'm finally
Finally at rock bottom
Well, that's when I start looking up
And reaching out

I know I'm not strong enough to be
Everything that I'm supposed to be
I give up
I'm not stong enough
Hands of mercy won't you cover me
Lord right now I'm asking you to be
Strong enough

Hope you have a blessed weekend!

Unclean

Lately my mind and my “to do list” have been focused on clean, clean, clean. You see, my house could use a good cleaning from top to bottom. Especially before we drag out all of the Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations and bring in a whole new lot of toys, games and clothes. Since both kids have birthdays near the end of the year and Christmas presents will be coming in soon, it can get to be a bit overwhelming. That’s why it especially struck me when twice this week, once in chapel at school with my kids and then at church, I heard the story of the leper Christ healed. (I have come to realize when I hear something over and over, it is often God trying to get my attention.)

Why did this story jump out at me and what does it have to do with a clean house you ask?

Then Sings My Soul Saturday

Hello Friends,
First of all I want to say thank you to all of you for always being so faithful to post and join in on TSMS Saturdays. And I want to say thank you for always commenting. I know sometimes I don't always get them up right away but I do read them all on my phone and sometimes I don't get back on the computer to get them posted. It's seems life has just gotten crazier and busier so I'm not having a lot of time to blog and read blogs but I love that you all still come by to visit me!
Also I wanted to thank you for all of the prayers and well wishes while I was in NYC last weekend. My trip was fabulous! The shows were wonderful and the taping went well. I will post the link to the webisode next month when it airs during National Epilepsy Awareness Month.
Thankfully the kids and Greg were fine while I was away but Spencer did have a seizure this week when I got home. At least it wasn't while I was gone!
Tonight we had Mary Lyndsey's birthday party. She had a pretend sleepover party from 4-9pm with 14 little girls. Needless to say, my head is spinning right now! I'll be sure to post some pictures this week. We had a blast.
Been thinking of this song today since Mary Lyndsey also had her first Praise Girls performance today at school and this is the song they signed/danced to. I'll have to post some pics of that too.
Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!
Sweet Blessings,
Amy

Then Sings My Soul Saturday

Hello Friends,
I hope you are having a fabulous weekend! I am really excited because I am in New York City enjoying all of the fun things to do here. I am probably sitting in "Wicked" on Broadway as this is posting since I have scheduled it to post on Friday night. I'm here filming a video about Women Succeeding with Epilepsy for National Epilepsy Awareness Month. I wish you all could be here with me!

Please pray that Greg and the children get along fine while I'm gone and for no seizures for Spencer!!

I'm not sure why, but I thought of this song when I was thinking about what to post while I was in the city. Hope you enjoy!

Sweet Blessings,
Amy

Then Sings My Soul Saturday My Wish

I wanted to post this song last week too, but I was torn between it and the song I posted by Sanctus Real. Last Thursday was my daughter Mary Lyndsey's birthday. She turned 7! I can't believe it. Time flies by so quickly. I wanted to dedicate this song to her.
Happy Birthday Mary Lyndsey!

Then Sings My Soul Saturday - Change Me

Have you ever gone through a period of time where you didn't like yourself very much? I know I am fearfully and wonderfully made, so that's not the kind of not liking yourself I'm talking about. I'm talking about knowing you should be doing more. Knowing you have somehow started to drift and now you feel lost and off course from the plan God has for your life. I'm talking about being frustrated for not having more self discipline. I think the feeling I have is what Paul was talking about when he said,

"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do." Romans 7:15

Anyone been there? I heard this song recently by Sanctus Real and it resonated with me. My prayer is that He would change me from who I've been lately into who He wants me to be.

Praying for you to have a blessed weekend.
Amy

Popcorn

Our neighbors on both sides of our home have trampolines in their backyards. This proves to be a great attraction to many of the kids in our cul-de-sac including my daughter. I don’t mind her jumping, but there is only one problem. One neighbor has a net around her trampoline and the other does not. So the rule is, you can jump on the one with the net, but not on the other. After all, I have to do as much as I can to keep her safe, right?

Then Signs My Soul Saturday

Hello Friends,
I hope you have had a blessed week and that you have some great plans for Labor Day Weekend! We are planning for some much needed rest. The school year has gotten off to a busy start and we need a little break!

This past week I finally rented and watched the movie Letters To God. I really enjoyed it. Although I recommend a box of tissues if you plan to watch it.

This song was in the movie and it really spoke to me. I'm leading a Bible study by Kay Arthur on prayer right now and this song really expresses how many people feel about prayer I think.

Also there is some information at the bottom of this post about the NRB's call to prayer.

Hope you enjoy!
Have a blessed, safe weekend.
Amy

The information below is taken from TGIF by Os Hillman.

A CALL TO PRAYER--On September 1st, the National Religous Broadcasters (NRB) will inaugurate a 40-day prayer campaign called ?If My People.? There is no agenda, movement or march planned around this call to prayer. The instruction, command, and direction from God is simple and clear, taken from 2 Chronicles 7:14: ?If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.?

God moves in the affairs of men and nations, and critical issues face us today on every level: our families are broken; the social fabric of our culture that was once our strength is now torn and tattered; our government is unproductive at best; our educational system is misguided; our economy is crumbling; and even many of our churches seem weak and ineffective. These issues seem too complex to correct, and the spiral continues downward in all areas of our culture and society. The underlying causes of all these problems are spiritual, and only God can make things right.

One hundred fifty years ago, America faced similar problems. One man, Jeremiah Lamphier, was moved to action in calling others to prayer. The impact on our nation was historic, as men and women came to Christ, repented of sin, and turned their focus to God and righteous living. Will you join the effort to day, and accept the call to prayer, as instructed in 2 Chronicles 7:14?

Visit http://ifmypeopleprayusa.org/ for more on this call to prayer, how you can pray, what to pray for, when to pray, and even how to lead a prayer group.

Then Sings My Soul Saturday - Something Holy

I heard this song on the radio this week and loved it. So many people are searching for something to complete them. What we don't realize is we were created with a space inside that only God can fill. I pray I allow Him to fill me completely! I want to be part of something holy.

Then Sings My Soul Saturday - My Own Little World

So sorry I'm late posting today. We had terrible lightning storms for hours last night so the computers and televisions were out. Still raining this morning, but at least the lightning has stopped for now.

I recently had a conversation with a girlfriend about how easy it is for us to get wrapped up in our own little world and not even recognize what is going on around us. Then, I heard this song and it was like God was speaking directly to my heart. Sometimes, I get so caught up in my own list of what I have to get done that day for my house, or my kids or their school, or my husband, that I don't take time to stop and ask what God wants me to do. It's hard because the outside world's problems seem so insurmountable sometimes. But, I'm praying for God to gently remind me each morning and let me see though His eyes. It's a little scary... but cool.
What's your world like?

Have a blessed weekend!

Then Sings My Soul Saturday - Unredeemed

I was looking for a song to post tonight and my friend Janet suggested this one. I had not heard it before tonight, but I think it's one of the most powerful songs I've heard in a while.
Listen carefully to the words.
My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you— I, whom you have redeemed. Psalm 71:23
You came near when I called you, and you said, "Do not fear."
O Lord, you took up my case; you redeemed my life. Lamentations 3:57-58

Have a blessed weekend!

Praying in Faith

I'm over at Five Minutes for Faith today with another post on prayer.
Do you see a theme emerging?
Blessings,
Amy

One of my recent Bible readings was Acts 12. In this chapter, Herod has put Peter in prison. Now Herod was arresting those who belonged to the church and had put James, the brother of John to death already, so it wasn’t looking good for Peter. The church was “earnestly praying” to God on Peter’s behalf.

Then Sings My Soul Saturday

I pray the words of this song will always be my heart's cry!

"And the seed that fell in the weeds—well, these are the ones who hear, but then the seed is crowded out and nothing comes of it as they go about their lives worrying about tomorrow, making money, and having fun.
But the seed in the good earth—these are the good-hearts who seize the Word and hold on no matter what, sticking with it until there's a harvest."

Luke 8:14-16 The Message

Have a blessed weekend.

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness

My kids are super excited about the Fourth of July. They love the parties, the decorations, and the fireworks. They love that I pull out some red, white and blue craft for us to do. They love that we always buy or make a new patriotic shirt or outfit to wear. They love that we usually take a trip, maybe to the beach or the mountains. But I’ve been reflecting on why they should love the fourth.

Then Sings My Soul Saturday - The Redeemer

I really like this song by Sanctus Real. On many days, I feel exactly like the lyrics to this song.

Sometimes I just wanna start over
Cause everything looks like a wreck
And I need the courage to carry on
Cause I can't see what's ahead

And there are places I've wished I could be
Battles I've wanted to win
Dreams that have slipped through my hands
I may never get back again

But I'm still a dreamer
A believer
Oh, I lost my faith in so many things
But I still believe in You
Cause You can make anything new

Sometimes I just wish we could say
All the things that are easy to hear
Ignore the injustice we see
And explain every unanswered prayer

But I'd rather speak honestly
And wear a tattered heart on my sleeve
Cuz in the middle of my broken dreams
Redemption is here

And I'm still a dreamer
A believer
Oh, I lost my faith in so many things
But I still believe in You
Cause You are the answer
The Redeemer
Oh, I've given up on too many things
But I'm not giving up on You
Cause You can make anything new

I don't have every answer in life
But I'm trusting You one day at a time
Cause You can make a weak heart stay alive
Forever
And this is where heaven and earth collide
I lift my hands, I give my life
This is how my weary heart stays alive

Oh, I'm still a dreamer
Still a believer
And You are the answer
The Redeemer
Cause You can make anything new
Yeah, You can make anything new

Enjoy!
Have a blessed weekend.

Oh friends... there is much excitement in the Wyatt household today. If I've been asked one time today, I've been asked 100... Is it time to go yet? My kids can't wait to go... to where you ask?

Honestly I'm a little excited myself! I feel a little like a kid again.
I wanted to put a trailer for Toy Story 3 up but all of them are disabled. This song makes me so excited. Let's just say... it makes my soul sing too.

I love Brandon Heath. This is one of his older songs, but one that really speaks to me. Sometimes it's difficult to pray for God to make me uncomfortable, but that is truly the only way He can stretch and grow us. He sometimes has to move us out of our comfort zone.

Then Sings My Soul Saturday - Audrey Assad

I stumbled across this song this week. I'd never heard it before but I fell in love with it. The artist is Audrey Assad. I've posted the lyrics below as best as I can figure them from the video. The words really spoke to me and echoed how my heart feels at times. Sometimes we are afraid to let our faith be real and we need to ask for His help to love Him and want Him. We sometimes have to ask for Him to help us fall to our knees. But still, I think He loves it when we are honest.

What are your thoughts?
Hope you have a blessed weekend.
Amy

Lyrics
I'm not afraid to be honest with you today.
The only thing I'm sure of is the view.
I never knew of grace before you called my name,
before you touched my face with your hand.

Even when I'm falling, confused and I'm frightened
and my faith is afraid to be real,
You know me, help me to want you, help me to want you.
You know me, help me to love you, help me to love you.

I'm not alone in this fight but I see .......
You are the rock I said I stand on
Oh I never knew about love before your healing touch,
You always hold that open door.

Even when I'm angry, hurt and broken,
won't you help me to fall on my knees.
You know me, help me to want you, help me to want you.
You know me, help me to love you, help me to love you.

Then Sings My Soul Saturday

Psalm 121

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;

4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;

8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

Then Sings My Soul Saturday - Trust You Brandon Heath

Anybody else out there have control issues? Maybe it's my personality, but I like to be in control. I like to have things planned out and know what is going to happen before it does. So... you see where this can sometimes cause problems in letting God direct me and in trusting Him not just in thought but in action. The words to this song really spoke to me this week. I struggle when I don't know where God is leading me... but I'm recommitting to trust Him.

Then Sings My Soul Saturday

This week's song is Amy Grant's new release "Better Than A Hallelujah". It's one of those songs I heard on the radio and now I can't get it out of my head. I'm not crazy about this version of the video because you have to get through the advertisement at the beginning and I don't particularly think she did as good a job live on this show as the studio version, but I still love it.
I hope you enjoy it too!

The Seven Statements of Christ - part 5, 6, 7

The fifth statement Christ made was one of  IDENTIFICATION.

Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty." John 19:28

Christ was thirsty because he was not only God but he was fully human. Because he was fully human, he can identify with us in every way - with every need we will ever have.

The sixth statement Christ made was one of INVITATION.

When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. John 19:30

The job he came to do was complete.

The seventh statement Christ made was one of INVINCIBILITY.

Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last. Luke 23:46

After Jesus paid the debt we owed, the Father embraced the Son and accepted Him for all eternity.

Remember to celebrate the Risen Savior not just at Easter but everyday of the year.

Blessings,
Amy

Then Sings My Soul Saturday - Happy Easter

The Seven Statements of Christ - part 4

The third statement Christ made was one of ISOLATION.

From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land. About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"—which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Matthew 27:45-46

At this point, if we consider the human side of Christ, it must have been almost unbearable to have been rejected and ridiculed in so many ways. The physical abuse aside, think about the emotional distress. Judas, one of his twelve has betrayed him, Peter has denied him not once, but three times, the disciples have abandoned him and scattered in fear - but at least He still has His Father. Then, when he has the sin of the world on his shoulders, His Father must temporarily look away too and Jesus asks "why have you forsaken me?" God could not look at the sin that was upon his son and Jesus feels completely forsaken.

Have you felt forsaken lately? Remember this, God has said, never will I leave you or forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5b) Your sin has already been covered by Christ, so Your Heavenly Father never has to look away.

The Seven Statements of Christ - part 3

The Third Statement Christ made was one of INTEREST.

When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son," 27and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. John 19:26-27

Interest can be defined as a concern for a cause or responsibility. When Jesus spoke these words to John, he was showing interest in his mother and her well being. He did not neglect the responsibility of taking care of his family and He wants us to do the same. He also shows interest by caring for us and in being involved in every detail of our lives.

Monday, March 29, 2010

The Seven Statements of Christ - part 2

The Second Statement Christ makes is one of INTERVENTION.

Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise." Luke 23:45

Intervention can be defined as coming, appearing or lying between two things. In this case, Christ intervened for the criminal on the cross by coming between him and what he deserved and giving him something he didn't - eternity with Him in paradise. None of us deserve heaven, but Christ intervenes on our behalf so that we can have paradise too.

The Seven Statements of Christ part 1

This morning at church, our pastor Larry Wynn shared an incredible message about the crucifixion and the last seven statements Christ made while hanging on the cross. I thought I'd share some of his comments as well as some of my own here with you on this week leading up to Easter.

The First Statement Christ makes is one of INTERCESSION.

Intercession is defined as prayer or petition to God on behalf of another.

Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." Luke 23:34

It's almost impossible for us as humans to believe one would be able to go through what Christ did during the crucifixion and still be able to love and forgive. He was able to because though He was fully human, he was fully God too. He loves us so much, He continues to forgive us when we don't know what we are doing and He is still making intercession for us day after day - every time we sin - all of our sin was taken care of once and for all when He died on the cross.

22Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.
23Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; 24but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25Therefore he is able to save completely[c] those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

26Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. Hebrews 7:22-27

Every morning when my kids pray on the way to school, they always say "Thank you Jesus for dying on the cross for my sins." They remind me I can't say "thank you" to Him enough for the price He paid.

Thank you Jesus for interceding on my behalf. Have you thanked Him lately?

Sweet Blessings,
Amy
